Will a UK Dentist Fix Turkey Teeth? NHS, Private and Aftercare at Home
Medically reviewed by Dt. Şerife Kalken, dentist and founder · October 2026

Short Answer
Yes, With Two Caveats
UK dentists can and do treat patients who had dental work done abroad. Whether the problem is a toothache, a loose crown or an implant that feels wrong, a dentist at home can examine you, take X-rays and treat what needs treating.
The two caveats are the ones people tend to find out the hard way:
- The NHS covers clinically necessary treatment, not cosmetic work. An NHS dentist will deal with pain, infection or a broken tooth at the standard band charges. Redoing veneers or crowns because you do not like how they look is private treatment.
- Without records, everything is harder. A dentist who does not know which implant system you have, or what is under a crown, has to work that out first. Some practices are reluctant to take on complex work planned elsewhere, especially with no paperwork.
This guide explains what the NHS will and will not do, what it costs in 2026, and what to bring so that any dentist at home can help you quickly.
NHS or Private
What the NHS Will and Will Not Do
NHS dentistry provides the treatment your dentist judges clinically necessary to keep your mouth healthy. The NHS website puts the other side plainly: you will usually need to get cosmetic treatments privately. In practice, that splits problems after treatment abroad into two groups.
Usually NHS
Clinically necessary
- Examples
- Pain, swelling or infection; a broken or decayed tooth; a root canal on a tooth whose nerve has died; removing a tooth that cannot be saved; an examination and X-rays to find out what is wrong.
Usually private
Cosmetic or specialised
- Examples
- Replacing veneers or crowns because of their shade, length or shape; teeth whitening; most implant work, including new implants and implant crowns.
Your dentist decides what is clinically necessary, and they must tell you which parts of a plan are NHS and which are private before treatment starts.

What to Bring
The Records That Make a UK Dentist’s Job Easy
The single biggest difference between a quick fix at home and a frustrating one is paperwork. Before you leave any clinic abroad, make sure you have:
Your implant passport
Brand, diameter, length and batch number of every implant. Without the system, a dentist cannot order the right screw or abutment.
X-rays as digital files
Before and after, so your dentist can compare. Paper printouts are much less useful.
A written summary, tooth by tooth
What was done on which tooth, and what it is made of: veneer or crown, E-max or zirconia, and any root canal treatment.
Your guarantee in writing
So you know what the clinic abroad will cover before you pay for anything at home.
A clinic that will talk to your dentist
A direct WhatsApp number, and a clinic willing to send records straight to whoever is treating you.
Every Betadent patient leaves with all five. If a dentist at home gets involved, we send your records straight to them.
Common Problems
Who to Call, Problem by Problem
| Problem | What to do first | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Pain, swelling, fever or a bad taste | See a dentist the same day: your own, or NHS 111 in England for urgent care | Message the clinic that treated you with photos |
| A crown or veneer comes off | Keep the piece and photograph it; a local dentist can often re-cement it temporarily | Send the photos to the clinic; check your guarantee |
| Chipped ceramic | Usually not urgent; avoid biting on it | Send photos to the clinic; check your guarantee |
| Implant tooth feels loose | Stop chewing on it; usually the crown or its screw has loosened | A dentist can check and tighten it if they know the system |
| Sensitivity that is getting worse | Get an X-ray; the nerve may be irritated | Share the X-ray with the clinic |
Be realistic about UK costs
A private UK check-up with X-rays is commonly around £60–£120, and a private emergency appointment around £80–£150. NHS charges are lower but appointments can be hard to get in some areas. Include this in your comparison when you price treatment abroad; our aftercare guide covers it in more detail.
Our Approach
How We Make It Easier for Your Dentist at Home
- Named implant systems only, with the details written down. MegaGen and Straumann components are available in the UK.
- A written plan that says veneer, crown or bonding for each tooth, so your dentist knows what is there.
- A written guarantee. Lifetime on the implant itself; five years on zirconia crowns, E-max crowns, porcelain veneers and Hollywood Smile restorations against fracture and debonding under normal use. Travel and accommodation for a return visit are not included.
- Follow-up on WhatsApp, on the same number you used before you came, and records sent to your dentist on request.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
- Will a UK dentist fix Turkey teeth?
Yes. UK dentists can examine and treat patients who had dental work abroad. The NHS covers treatment that is clinically necessary, such as dealing with pain, infection or a broken tooth, at the standard band charges. Replacing veneers or crowns for cosmetic reasons is private treatment.
- Will the NHS replace veneers done in Turkey?
Not for cosmetic reasons. The NHS says cosmetic treatments usually have to be done privately. If a tooth under a veneer or crown is decayed, infected or broken, the treatment it needs is clinically necessary and can be provided on the NHS.
- How much is NHS dental treatment in 2026?
In England, from 1 April 2026: £27.90 for urgent care or Band 1, £76.60 for Band 2 and £332.10 for Band 3. Charges differ in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and some people are exempt.
- Can a UK dentist work on implants placed in Turkey?
Usually, provided they can identify the implant system. That is why you should leave with the brand, diameter, length and batch number of every implant. MegaGen and Straumann components are both available in the UK.
- What should I do if something goes wrong after I get home?
For pain, swelling or fever, see a dentist the same day and do not wait to fly back. Then message the clinic that treated you with photos and ask them to send your records to the dentist treating you.
Send us your X-ray and we will tell you where you stand
A dentist reviews it and you get a written plan. No charge, no deposit, and no obligation to travel.
