Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment starts at £115 per tooth at our clinic in Antalya, compared with roughly £900–£1,400 privately in the UK. A back tooth will normally need a crown afterwards — zirconia from £150 or metal-ceramic from £110 — which we quote at the same time rather than afterwards.

The treatment itself is done under local anaesthetic, so you should feel pressure but not pain. Most patients say the appointment is easier than they expected — the pain people associate with root canals is usually the toothache that brought them in. Expect a dull ache for two to three days afterwards.

Usually one or two, over three to four days. If there is active infection we may place medication and leave the tooth for a few days before sealing the canals. Add another three to four days if a crown is needed.

On a molar or premolar, almost always — the tooth becomes brittle once the nerve is removed and fractures without protection. On a front tooth a well-bonded filling is often enough. We will tell you which applies to your tooth after the X-ray.

With a crown and good hygiene, a root-treated tooth commonly lasts fifteen to twenty years or more. Without a crown on a back tooth, considerably less.

Often, yes. Re-treatment means removing the old root filling, cleaning the canals again and re-sealing them; it is quoted per tooth once we have seen a periapical X-ray, because how much work it takes depends on what was left behind. Send us a periapical X-ray and we will tell you honestly whether re-treatment or extraction and an implant is the better use of your money.

We will say so before you spend anything on it. An extraction with an implant starts at £200 for the implant and £175 for the permanent crown, and often makes more sense than treating a tooth that will fail again within a year or two.

Yes. There is no reason to delay flying after routine root canal treatment. If we have left medication in the tooth and sealed it temporarily, we will tell you exactly when the permanent filling needs doing.
