What Is Impacted Tooth Extraction?
Impacted tooth extraction is the surgical removal of a tooth — most often a wisdom tooth — that has become stuck under the gum or jawbone and cannot fully erupt.
Impacted teeth can press against neighboring teeth and cause pain, swelling, and recurring infections. Early diagnosis and extraction when needed prevents these complications.

How much does wisdom tooth removal cost in Turkey?
A simple extraction starts at £30, an erupted wisdom tooth at £50, and a surgical or fully impacted extraction at £100. Four wisdom teeth are priced per tooth: from £200 where all four have erupted, and £400 where all four are impacted. UK private surgical extraction is typically £250–£450 per tooth.

Can all four wisdom teeth be removed at once?
Yes, and many patients prefer it — one recovery instead of two. We usually do them in one or two sittings depending on how difficult they are and how you are coping. Sedation is available for the full set.

Is it painful?
The extraction is done under local anaesthetic, so you feel pressure but not pain. The two to three days afterwards involve swelling and soreness, managed with the medication we provide. Most patients describe it as uncomfortable rather than painful.

How long do I need to stay in Antalya?
Four to five nights. The extraction is on day one or two, swelling peaks at 48–72 hours, and we see you once more before you fly. You can fly with a healing socket, but it is more comfortable not to do it the next morning.

What is dry socket and how likely is it?
It happens when the blood clot in the socket is lost before healing, exposing the bone. It affects roughly 3–5% of extractions, more in smokers and more on lower teeth. It is painful but treatable, and following the first 48 hours of aftercare is the best prevention.

Could I get permanent numbness?
It is a real but uncommon risk with deeply impacted lower wisdom teeth, where the roots sit close to the nerve canal. Published rates for permanent effects are under 1%. The panoramic X-ray shows us the relationship before we start, and if the risk looks high we will discuss whether the tooth needs removing at all.

Do I need to have my wisdom teeth out?
Not necessarily. A fully erupted wisdom tooth that you can clean and that is causing no problems is usually best left in place. Removal is for teeth causing pain, infection, decay, or damage to the tooth in front.

Can I have this done alongside other treatment?
Yes, and it is common. Extractions are usually scheduled early in a trip so that any crown or veneer work happens once the swelling has settled.

UK private surgical extraction typically runs £250–£450 per tooth, and NHS waiting lists for wisdom teeth can be long. Four impacted teeth at £400 against £1,000–£1,800 privately in the UK is the case where the saving is large enough to justify the trip on its own.

How Long It Takes and What Recovery Is Like
Extraction is same-day treatment. Recovery, not the appointment, is what you plan the trip around.
Day 1
Panoramic X-ray
The X-ray shows the angle of the tooth and — critically — how close the roots sit to the inferior alveolar nerve in the lower jaw. This decides the technique and the risk.
Day 1 or 2
The extraction
Local anaesthetic, then removal. A straightforward tooth takes ten minutes; a deeply impacted lower wisdom tooth can take forty-five. Sedation is available.
Days 2–4
The swollen days
Swelling peaks at 48–72 hours. Ice, the medication we give you, and soft food. This is the part to plan around — do not book anything you care about.
Day 5–7
Review and flying home
A check on the socket before you leave. Stitches, where used, are usually dissolvable.

Travel and accommodation for a return visit are not included, and if you grind your teeth, wearing the night guard we provide is a condition of the guarantee.

The Risks Nobody Enjoys Explaining
Worth knowing before you book
- Lower wisdom teeth sit near a nerve. In a small number of cases — published figures are under 1% for permanent effects — removing a deeply impacted lower wisdom tooth causes numbness of the lip or chin. The panoramic X-ray tells us how close the roots are, and if they are very close we will discuss whether removal is really necessary.
- Dry socket happens. Around 3–5% of extractions, more in smokers, more on lower teeth. It is painful, it is treatable, and the way to avoid it is to follow the aftercare instructions in the first 48 hours rather than skim them.
- Not every wisdom tooth needs removing. A tooth that is fully erupted, cleanable and causing no problems is usually best left alone. We will say so, even though we could just as easily take it out.
- Plan four days, not two. Swelling peaks on day three. Flying with a fresh extraction socket is fine medically, but you will not enjoy it, and we would rather see you once before you go.
- No smoking, no straws, no alcohol for 48 hours. This is the single biggest factor in whether your recovery is uneventful.
