How Many Veneers Do You Actually Need?

It depends on how wide your smile shows when you laugh, not on a standard package. For most people that is the upper six to ten teeth. Sixteen or twenty units only make sense when your lower teeth show too, or need treatment anyway.

Before you ask for a price, take a photograph of yourself laughing naturally and count the teeth you can see. That number is a better starting point than any package size. Anyone quoting you twenty units before seeing a photograph is selling a package, not planning a smile.

You may also need fewer than you think, or none. If your teeth are a good shape but yellow, whitening alone may be enough. If only a couple of edges are chipped, composite bonding on those teeth usually looks more natural than veneering all of them.

Why Two Veneer Quotes Can Differ by Thousands

Two quotes for “veneers” are often not quoting the same thing.

Veneers or Crowns

Some “veneer” quotes are really zirconia crowns, which remove far more tooth. Ask whether the plan covers the front of the tooth or the whole tooth.

The Material

E-max, other ceramics and composite have different prices, lifespans and looks. Ask for the material per tooth in writing, not just the word “premium”.

The Number of Teeth

This is the biggest single driver of the total. Each tooth you do not need to treat saves £350 and keeps your enamel.

Work Needed First

Decay, old leaking fillings or inflamed gums must be treated first. A plan that skips this is only cheaper on paper.

Whitening First

Ceramic does not whiten. If you want the teeth next to your veneers lighter, whiten first so the set is matched to your new shade.

What Cheap Veneers Do Not Tell You

Worth knowing before you compare prices

Enamel does not grow back. A laminate veneer removes 0.3 to 0.7 mm of enamel. That is conservative, but it is permanent, so the tooth is changed for good.
Veneers need replacing eventually. Ten to fifteen years is a realistic expectation for E-max. Budget for that when you work out what a set really costs. See how long veneers last.
Very white is not automatically better. The shade that reads as “obviously done” is usually two or three steps brighter than one that reads as natural.
Grinding changes the plan. Ceramic can chip if you grind. A night guard is part of the plan, and our guarantee depends on you wearing it.
