E-max

Tooth Removed
Composite little or none; E-max a thin layer of enamel
The Short Answer
Which Is Better: Composite or E-max Veneers?
Neither is better overall. Composite veneers cost less, can be done in a few days and usually keep your enamel, but they stain and typically last around 5 to 7 years. E-max veneers cost more and need a thin layer of enamel removed, but they do not stain and typically last around 10 to 15 years.
A good rule is to match the treatment to the size of the change. For modest changes on healthy teeth, composite is often the kinder choice. For a large change in shape and colour across the smile, E-max gives a more even, longer-lasting result.
A note on names: “composite veneers”, “composite bonding” and “direct composite veneers” all describe resin built directly on the tooth. “E-max” is a brand of lithium disilicate ceramic, a type of porcelain veneer made in a laboratory.
Side by Side
Composite and E-max Veneers Compared
Typical ranges with good care, not guarantees.
Composite veneer
Resin built on the tooth by hand
- Best for
- Chips, small gaps and uneven edges on healthy teeth
- Tooth removed
- Little or none, and usually reversible
- Lasts
- Around 5–7 years before repair or replacement
- Stains
- Picks up colour over time; polishing helps
- If it chips
- Usually a short repair, and any dentist can do it
- Price
- From £120 per tooth
E-max veneer
Thin ceramic shell made in a laboratory
- Best for
- Larger changes in shape and colour
- Tooth removed
- 0.3–0.7 mm of enamel, which is permanent
- Lasts
- Around 10–15 years, often longer
- Stains
- Glazed ceramic does not stain
- If it chips
- Usually replaced rather than repaired
- Price
- From £350 per tooth

Is composite really cheaper over time?
Up front, yes: ten composite veneers cost about a third of ten E-max veneers. Over fifteen years the gap narrows. At today’s prices, composite replaced every five to seven years means two or three sets, or roughly £2,400 to £3,600 for ten teeth, against about £3,500 for one E-max set. That is before any travel.
The sums are not the whole story. Composite keeps your enamel for longer, and a composite plan can usually be changed to ceramic later. Going the other way is not possible, because prepared enamel does not grow back.
After Five Years
What Composite Veneers Look Like After Five Years
Well-kept composite can still look good at five years, but it will not look the same as on the day it was placed. Composite is softer than ceramic, so expect the surface to lose some of its shine and the edges to wear. Coffee, tea, red wine and smoking discolour it faster than enamel.
A polish at your hygiene visits restores much of the shine and removes surface stain. Small chips are usually a short repair rather than a replacement. Around the five to seven year mark, many composite veneers need replacing or a larger repair.
E-max ages differently. The glazed surface keeps its shine and colour, so the usual reasons it ends are chipping, a gum line that has moved or decay at the edge, which is why hygiene visits still matter. For the detail, read how long veneers last.
Which Suits You
Composite or E-max: Which Should You Choose?
Composite Usually Suits
Healthy teeth with chips, small gaps or uneven edges. Younger patients who want to keep their enamel. Anyone who wants a reversible first step.
E-max Usually Suits
A larger change in shape and colour across the smile. Teeth that have discoloured in a way whitening cannot fix. People who want the longest-lasting surface.
Think Twice About Either
If you grind or clench heavily. Composite edges chip and ceramic can crack under that load, so a night guard comes first.
Neither May Be Right
Heavily filled or cracked teeth may need a crown. Crowding or a bite problem is a job for orthodontics.
Treat Your Gums First
Both need a healthy, dry field to bond well. Inflamed gums must be treated before either is placed.
You Can Combine Them
Many good plans use both. Whitening first, E-max where a tooth needs it and bonding on the rest often looks more natural than veneering every tooth.
In Turkey
How Long Each Takes in Antalya
Composite is built directly on the tooth in the chair, so there is no laboratory wait. Most cases need two to three days. E-max is made in a laboratory, with a try-in before the set is finished, so it needs five to seven nights in one trip. Both include airport transfers, imaging and follow-up. For veneers your hotel is included; for a short composite plan, your written plan confirms how your stay works.

Honest Answers
What People Get Wrong About Both
Worth knowing before you decide
- Composite is not cheap E-max. It is excellent for modest changes on healthy teeth, but it will not give the result of a full set of ceramic veneers.
- Overbuilt composite looks bulky. Teeth made too thick or too long are the main reason composite looks artificial. Ask to see the planned shape first.
- Neither can be whitened. Whitening gel only lightens natural enamel. If you want lighter teeth, whiten first and match the work to the new shade.
- “No preparation” is not a promise. Do not assume all composite is reversible, or that any ceramic can go on without changing the tooth. Ask what is planned for your teeth.
- Fewer teeth is often better. Two or four teeth treated well usually look more natural than every visible tooth treated.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Which is better, composite or E-max veneers?
Neither is better overall. Composite suits small, reversible changes and costs less per tooth. E-max suits larger changes in shape and colour, resists staining and lasts longer, but it needs enamel preparation.
-
How much do composite veneers cost in Turkey?
At Betadent, composite work starts from £120 per tooth. Six front teeth start around £720 and ten around £1,200.
-
How much do E-max veneers cost in Turkey?
E-max veneers start from £350 per tooth. Eight start from £2,800, ten from £3,500 and a full set of twenty from £7,000.
-
How long do composite veneers last?
Typically around five to seven years before they need replacing or a larger repair. Grinding, biting hard objects and heavy staining shorten that. Polishing at your hygiene visits extends it.
-
How long do E-max veneers last?
Typically around ten to fifteen years with good care. Grinding, biting nails and skipping hygiene visits shorten that considerably.
-
Can composite veneers be replaced with porcelain later?
Usually, yes. Composite can often be removed and replaced with ceramic once you want a longer-lasting result. Your dentist will check the teeth underneath first.
-
Do composite veneers damage your teeth?
Usually very little. In most cases the enamel is only lightly roughened so the resin can bond, which is why composite can normally be removed or replaced later. Your dentist will tell you if any shaping is needed.
-
Do E-max veneers stain?
The glazed ceramic does not stain. The tooth around it and any composite at the edge can still change colour, which is why hygiene visits matter.
